For Your Quality of Life in Siskiyou County and Beyond
Why a Community Health Plan?
Lack of affordable health coverage has been longstanding in rural
communities around the nation, including Siskiyou County.
As a result, uninsured employers lose productivity and uninsured families
lose income due to illness or injury everyday.
In Siskiyou County, more than one in four adults (27%) aged 18 - 64 are
completely without health care coverage. This means:
- They do not have individual health insurance.
- They have no employer-sponsored coverage.
- They earn too much to qualify for Medi-Cal.
These neighbors, friends and family members currently face high out-of-pocket costs for care.
|
Consider the impacts: 1. Families choosing to postpone preventive care or early intervention which often leads to worsening conditions and a need for higher level, more expensive care. 2. Lost workforce productivity due to longer recovery times associated with postponing primary care, 3. Uncompensated care at safety-net providers, in particular community hospital emergency rooms. 4. No personal protection from high costs of advanced health care diagnostic and therapeutic services. 5. One in two personal bankruptcies result from serious health problems.* *Source: The Fragile Middle Class, Americans in Debt, Elizabeth Warren, Harvard Law School, Smith Business Solutions. |
Because of this, Community Health Plan of the Siskiyous (CHPS) was created in 1994 by a group of concerned community leaders as a locally governed, nonprofit health plan. From the beginning, our objective has been to bring affordable health benefits to local business owners and their employees who have been unable to access higher priced products.
We are delighted to bring a new health plan option to Siskiyou County.
Fortunately, many out-of-pocket costs can be off-set by a CHPS
affordable health plan.CHPS combines affordable health plan products with a large network of preferred providers in Siskiyou, Shasta and Jackson counties.
In addition, all of CHPS health plans are connected to statewide and national provider groups to ensure that CHPS health plan members can access coverage close to home and beyond. Find favorite local physicians and hospitals contracted with CHPS and Interplan at our online Directory.

CHPS Cost Saver Plan through Allied National: www.alliednational.com A unique limited benefit plan based on a traditional PPO style product. Provides the essential benefits that members want most - like office visit and prescription drug copays. Also provides coverage for surgeries, outpatient care and hospitalizations. Provides flexibility in employer's choice of copay levels, coinsurance and deductibles to create a plan that fits their benefit and premium needs. Plan provides first dollar coverage for physician office visits and medications. Small co-pays. No medical underwriting. 3 benefit levels to choose from. (2 - 50 enrollees) CHPS Cost Saver PLUS Major Medical Plan through Allied National: Based on the Cost Saver Plan but includes coverage for catastrophic conditions. This plan allows the employer to offer an affordable, comprehensive employee health plan that's an alternative to comparatively priced high deducitble plans. (Cost Saver PLUS is medically underwritten.) Strong first-dollar benefits that people want and use the most. Low $500 deductible. Three different prescriptin drug card options. Rates comparable to high deductible plans. (2 - 50 enrollees) CHPS Health Savings Account Plans through Allied National: Allied offers several different High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP) that are required to qualify for a Health Savings Account (HSA). HSAs make sense for a lot of people, particularly small business owners. The great savings of a HDHP can be used to provide the funding for a tax-favored HSA. The totally portable individually established HSA is the cornerstone of these plans because it gives an insured complete choice in how to spend the initial dollars associated with their care (those charges falling under the deductuble of the health plan). The HSA may be funded with tax-favored contributions by the employer, the employee, or both. Any unused contributions roll over from year to year and, if untouched, accrue to a sizeable amount over time. Ultimately, the consumer saves in two majkor ways. The savings generated by a HDHP reduces employer and employee insurance premiums. Tax-favored dollars can help fund the HSA and be used for either medical expenses or invested and treated like a retirement account; the employee gets to make the decisions. CHPS Group Dental through Allied National: Combines unmatched preventive care benefits with right-priced rates that make it a plan that sells itself. No ineligible industries - family only groups acceptable. Fast, easy enrollment and guaranteed issue for qualified groups of 2 or more. 12-month rate guarantee. Plans available only through designated brokers. For more information or a quote, contact us. |
